The ILS is a Precision Instrument Approach Procedure.
It is one of the world’s most widely used Systems to approach an airport, both, by private planes as well as
the Airline industry.
With vertical and horizontal guidance, it can get an airplane down all the way to touchdown very safely and, depending on the airplanes equipment and pilot training even with almost no to no visibility at all.
The complete ILS system is usually divided into 3 components:
1. GUIDANCE INFORMATION
(GS & LOC)
2. RANGE INFORMATION
(MARKER BEACONS & DME)
3. VISUAL INFORMATION
(APPR LIGHTS, T/D & CTL LIGHTS, RWY LIGHTS)
